Digital SLR User Magazine Competitions

Compete in the "Digital SLR User Magazine" competitions against many of the other Camera Clubs of Britain.

Digital SLR User Magazine supports Camera Clubs through out Britain by providing an information forum, and by running competitions. Croydon Camera Club has it's own section on their web site.

Their regular competition is called the Battle Of The Clubs. There is a set theme for each month, and the results are printed in Digital SLR User Magazine a month later. In the June issue, Croydon Camera Club featured prominently as we did very well (page 113). Croydon Camera Club enters the competitions regularly. To participate further, YOU need to submit your photographs.

Am I able to participate?
  • The magazine is aimed at users of "SLR Cameras" and for "digital" images only. The EXIF data are displayed on the competition web pages. Therefore, all images must be taken with a digital camera.

How do I participate?
  • Check the current and future themes to see what is required.

  • Send your pictures to the Club: These must be received AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and at least 4 or 5 days before the Competition Deadline displayed on the Magazine's web site. The best pictures are selected from all those supplied. The image files are set to the required pixel parameters, then uploaded; more of this below. This takes time, so submit your work early!

  • Feel free to submit your images months in advance.

What Image Quality is required?
  • Send the highest pixel quality images possible, in JPG format.

  • Name each photograph with both the name of the picture, and your name.

  • eMail them to the club, or provide a CD/memory stick on club evening.

Phase 1: The Club enters the competition...
  • The best 3 images of all those submitted, are selected by the Club.

  • These images are modified to be 300dpi, and less than 500kb in size.

  • They are uploaded to the Croydon Camera Club Gallery. We may place many more images in this Gallery, not just those destined for competitions.

  • From here, they are submitted to the competition. Each image is given a title and the photographer's name.

  • At the close of the competition entry period, all the images of all the clubs are marked by the Magazine judges. The points are displayed on the Leaderboard (below the Competition Schedule) as a cumulative total for all the competition months so far.

  • We wait to see if we have been selected as suitable for publication...

Phase 2: Publication in the Magazine - if we are good enough!
  • We now provide the best possible quality copies of our JPGs for possible inclusion in the magazine. This is why we ask for such high quality initially. There are only a few days to provide these; not enough time to get back to you.

  • Check the publication date.
