Master Trophy, 2010

Date TBA  The Theme is "Against The Light"; also known as "Contre-jour".

To quote Wikipedia: "Contre-jour, French for 'against daylight', refers to photographs taken when the camera is pointing directly toward the source of light. An alternative term is backlighting. Contre-jour produces backlighting of the subject. This effect usually hides details, causes a stronger contrast between light and dark, creates silhouettes and emphasizes lines and shapes. The sun, or other light source, is often seen as either a bright spot or as a strong glare behind the subject. Fill light may be used to illuminate the side of the subject facing toward the camera."

"Points Of View" Exhibition, British Library

Open NOW!
Closes 7th March 2010
The British Library's exhibition Points Of View captures the 19th Century in photographs. It is a free.

To quote: "Bringing together photographs from the British Library’s unique collections, examining the development of the medium and its lasting influence.
Organised by subject matter, the exhibition asks: 'Who was taking the photograph and why?' Section by section, items are presented within their cultural context to explore some of the major themes of the 19th century – from expansion to industrialisation, science, and the rapid changes taking place in society. The final section reveals how technology responded to the demands of a developing mass market for photography, which continues to the present day."

GOLDEN JUBILEE EXHIBITION, 3 April – 1 May 2010, Guildford

SPA Exhibition  The Exhibition is open to all members of SPA affiliated clubs (e.g. Croydon Camera Club).

All entries (which are individual entries by club members) have to be submitted through the club, and to this end, as in previous years, Bill will be acting as our club liaison officer.

As you will see from the attached documentation, all entry forms and fees have to be with SPA no later than Saturday 6th February.

So that Bill can make sure this happens, he will need your completed entry forms and money not later than Wednesday 20th January (or Saturday 23rd January if sending by post). Bill cannot entertain any later dates as during the following week he will be heavily involved with the cataloguing and judging arrangements for our own exhibition in March 2010.

As you will also see, the entries themselves have to be with SPA no later than Saturday 13th February.

To enable delivery by then Bill will need your prints, slides, etc. by Wednesday 3rd February.

If you intend to exhibit but would find difficulty in meeting these dates please contact Bill to discuss.

The Club Poster outlines where and when.

To gain an overview of what is required, read the general exhibition description.

If you wish to exhibit, you need to complete Entry Form B.

Don't forget to Read The Rules.

Digital SLR User Magazine Competitions

For Camera Clubs:  Digital SLR User Magazine supports Camera Clubs through out Britain by providing an information forum, and by running competitions. Croydon Camera Club has it's own section on their web site.

Although Croydon Camera Club has participated in the opening rounds of the competitions, to go further, everyone needs to participate. So have a look! Note that the magazine is aimed at users of "SLR Cameras" and for "digital" images only. The EXIF data are displayed on the competition web pages.

The Battle Of The Clubs competitions have a set theme for each month, and the results are printed in Digital SLR User Magazine a few months later. In the June 2009 issue, Croydon Camera Club featured prominently as we did very well (page 113).

What is Proposed:  That Croydon Camera Club enters the competitions regularly:

See what the current theme is, and send your digital images to the club organiser. The best images will be selected, and submitted to the magazine.

Note the submission dates; the club will need your digital images a week earlier to get everything organised properly.

If you wish to join in, here are the SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS.
